Engine Company 18

LEED Certified SILVER

Mayor Richard M. Daley cut the ribbon on August 2, 2008 for the new Engine Company 18 firehouse, a new facility that will provide the latest in firefighting technology and communication for residents in the neighborhoods of University Village, Pilsen, Little Italy, the Near West Side and the South Loop.

A 16,000 square foot, 1-story masonry Fire Station based on the Prototype Design. Lessons Learned from previous Engine Company projects have been incorporated into the design. The project includes surface parking for 32 vehicles and is situated on 1.52 acres. It replaces the existing Engine Company 18 located at 1123 West Roosevelt Road which was built in 1873.

The facility features oversized doors to accommodate today’s larger emergency vehicles, a circular driveway for safer and faster ingress and egress of the facility, a state-of-the-art emergency communication system, a state-of-the-art watch tower, firefighter and officer quarters, bathroom and locker-room facilities for men and women, and a workout facility.

LEED Features: This Project will include a solar thermal domestic water heating system and will achieve LEED “Silver” Certification.

Engine Company 70

LEED Certified SILVER

A 21,000-square-foot, 1-story masonry Fire Station based on the Prototype Design. Lessons Learned from previous Engine Company projects have been incorporated into the design. The project includes surface parking for 41 vehicles and is situated on 2.62 acres.

The facility features oversized doors to accommodate today’s larger emergency vehicles, a circular driveway for safer and faster ingress and egress of the facility, a state-of-the-art emergency communication system, a training room, an exterior apparatus training area, a state-of-the-art watch tower, firefighter and officer quarters, bathroom and locker-room facilities for men and women and a workout facility.

LEED Features: This project will include a solar thermal domestic water heating system. This project has a goal of LEED “Silver” Certification.

Engine Company 121

Mayor Richard M. Daley cut the ribbon on the new Engine Company 121 firehouse on July 26, 2008, a new facility that will provide the latest in firefighting technology and communication for residents of the Beverly, Morgan Park, Auburn and Gresham neighborhoods.

This station replaced one on the same block that dated back to 1914.

LEED Features: This project includes a solar thermal domestic water heating system and will achieve LEED “Silver” Certification.

O.A. Thorp School Campus Park

The Campus Park site improvement is a 3.1 acre site. The existing asphalt surface will be demolished in order to provide an open field with green space at the site. It will consist of the following amenities:

  • Landscaping with shade trees,
  • Trash compactor,
  • Ornamental lighting,
  • Ornamental fencing,
  • Benches and
  • Trash receptacles.

Willye B. White Community Center

The Gale School Community center will be built in the Rogers Park community. It will feature a competition-sized gymnasium, with two full-sized athletic courts that will accommodate basketball, volleyball and other activities. At 18,325 square feet, the facility will also include a fitness room, a spacious club room that can be divided into two smaller rooms, two administrative offices and men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers that will be fully accessible for people with disabilities.

The building will also include environmentally friendly features, such as low-consumption water fixtures, and a partial green roof, which will capture rainwater and return a portion back to the atmosphere.

Miles Davis Academy

LEED Certified SILVER

The new three-story is approximately 100,000 square feet and will serve 600 students. The design consists of a new three-story facility made of steel framing and predominantly brick construction.

The facility features:

  • Modern classrooms,
  • Art room,
  • Multipurpose room,
  • Science room,
  • Library and
  • Gymnasium

LEED Features: This project has a goal of LEED “Silver” Certification.

Frank I. Bennett School Campus Park

The PBC opened this 1.2 acre site in 2008. A Fieldhouse and existing asphalt surface were demolished to provide an open field with green space at the site. It consists of the following amenities:

  • Asphalt running track,
  • Landscaping with shade trees,
  • Trash compactor,
  • Ornamental lighting,
  • Ornamental fencing,
  • Benches and
  • Trash receptacles.

Thomas Drummond School Campus Park

This 2008 Campus Park is a 0.53 acre site. The existing asphalt surface was demolished to provide an open field with green space at the site. This Campus Park provides the following amenities:

  • Open grass field
  • Shade trees,
  • Trash compactor,
  • Ornamental lighting,
  • Ornamental fencing and
  • Trash receptacles.

Along with the site improvement, the existing parking lot was demolished and reconfigured to provide 23 parking spaces adjacent to the green space.

Graeme Stewart Campus Park

The Campus Park site improvement is a 1.8 acre site. The old playground equipment set, the existing asphalt surface and the street closure of Kenmore Street will be demolished in order to provide an open field with green space at the site. It will consist of the following amenities:

  • Artificial turf,
  • Landscaping with shade trees,
  • Playground equipment for ages 2-5
  • Playground equipment for ages 5-12,
  • Trash compactor,
  • Ornamental lighting,
  • Ornamental fencing,
  • Benches and
  • Trash receptacles.

Charles Wacker Campus Park

The Campus Park site improvement is a 0.85 acre site. The old playground equipment set and the existing asphalt surface will be demolished in order to provide an open field with green space at the site. It will consist of the following amenities:

  • Landscaping with shade trees,
  • Playground equipment for ages 2-5
  • Playground equipment for ages 5-12,
  • Trash compactor,
  • Box lighting,
  • Ornamental fencing,
  • Benches and
  • Trash receptacles.

Along with the site improvement, the existing parking lot will be demolished and reconfigured in order to provide additional parking stalls.
