Neal F. Simeon Career Academy

Mayor Daley rang the bell to open the 2003-04 school year at the new Simeon Academy. The school is a modern three-story building with 40 classrooms, six science labs and five rooms devoted to music or art.

Some of the classrooms are specially designed for vocational instruction, including shops for carpentry, welding and other trades.

Also included are computer labs, a gymnasium, a library resource center, a large auditorium and full-service dining facilities.

The new building is air conditioned and fully accessible to people with disabilities. The nearly $40 million facility totals 215,000 square feet of educational space.

New Field Elementary School

Construction started in the spring of 2002 on a new three-story school at the southeast corner of Clark and Morse. The 30 classroom building will accomodate 1,000 students and was completed for the 2003-4 school year.

Ronald E. McNair Elementary School

Construction started in the spring of 2002 on a new school in the 4800 block of West Walton. The 37 classroom building accomodates nearly 1,000 students and it was completed for the 2003-4 school year.

Paul Cuffe Academy

Opened for the 2003-04 school year the three-story school and grounds features 26 regular classrooms; specialized art, music, computer and science rooms; a gymnasium with handicapped-accessible bleachers; a full-service dining hall; a resource center (library) with Internet connections; and central air conditioning.

The school grounds extend through 84th Street include landscaping and two play areas adjacent to the building and, beyond, a teachers’ parking lot for more than 50 cars.

The entire building is in compliance with the American Disabilities Act, including elevators for persons with disabilities.
