PBC Approves Contract For New Southwest Side Police Station
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/13/2002
Jack Beary, (312) 744-9277
The Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC) today approved a $12.4 million construction contract to build a new 22nd District police station in the Morgan Park area.
Morgan Park’s new district station will stand at 1901 West Monterey Avenue, across the street from the present station, which was built in 1938, and will be four times its size. The PBC Board awarded the construction contract to Castle Construction. The PBC currently is acquiring land for the new station in the vicinity of Esmond Street and Monterey Avenue.
The new station, one of 11 being built under Mayor Daley’s Neighborhoods Alive 21 program, will provide facilities for advanced crime-fighting technology, officials said. It also will feature a community meeting room, equipment for video bond hearings, a fitness room and new locker facilities to accommodate both male and female officers.
Other actions taken Tuesday by the PBC Board, including the appointment of architects and owner’s representatives, are listed on the PBC’s web site at www.pbcchicago.com.
