Connecting People to Jobs – the PBC Host Community Hiring Event at Legler Library
WHAT: Continuing its mission to create jobs for residents of the City of Chicago and for those who live in the community areas where the projects are constructed, the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC) will host two community hiring events for a variety of upcoming construction job opportunities.
WHEN: Friday, February 28, 2020 | 12:00 – 4:00pm
and Friday, March 6, 2020 | 10:00am – 2:00pm
WHERE: Legler Public Library
115 S. Pulaski Road
Chicago, IL 60624
DETAILS: The PBC establishes city residency and community area hiring requirements for each construction project. This means 50% of the total hours worked on a project must come from City of Chicago residents.
At the outset of a project, the PBC defines the community area, usually the neighborhood and immediate surroundings areas, where a percentage of the total hours worked on a project must be worked by residents of that community area.
“Community workforce participation helps to ensure that residents of designated community areas surrounding PBC projects are provided opportunities to apply for employment,” Carina E. Sanchez, PBC Executive Director said.
The PBC focuses on economic sustainability in project and program development. In addition, the PBC also meets on a regular basis with assist agencies, sister agencies and community groups to explore opportunities for increasing participation on projects.
About the PBC: The Public Building Commission of Chicago manages construction and renovation projects for the City of Chicago and its sister agencies. Mayor Lori Lightfoot serves as the PBC’s Chairman. Carina E. Sanchez serves as the Executive Director of the PBC.
