Mayor Richard M. Daley, 18th Ward Alderman Thomas Murphy, Park District Superintendent Tim Mitchell and neighborhood residents today celebrated the completion of Hayes Park Natatorium and Fitness Center, 2936 W. 85th St. The $8.4 million undertaking, boasting a 20,000 square foot addition to the existing field house, features a new zero depth pool, state-of-the-art fitness center and increased greenspace.

“This is a great addition to Hayes Park, especially as the summer draws closer,” said Mayor Daley. “I encourage all community residents to utilize this new facility and look at it as an opportunity to start an exercise program, stay healthy and encourage other family members and friends to do the same.”

“The addition of the new pool and fitness center to Hayes Park offers families a place to spend quality time together and brings increased recreational opportunities,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent & CEO Timothy J. Mitchell.

The Hayes Park Natatorium project added new recreational opportunities to the 20.3-acre existing park. The new men’s and women’s locker rooms and shower area, and staff offices all complement the new recreational offerings of the park. In addition, parking and upgraded utility services were part of this project.

The Park District will offer a wide variety of aquatic programs for community members of all levels and ages.

In keeping with the park district’s commitment to increase wellness among Chicagoans through physical activity and exercise, the new fitness center includes a cardiovascular line of computerized treadmills, elliptical or cross trainers, various recumbent and upright stationary bikes, as well as stair steppers.
