Gery Chico joins Public Building Commission Board

Represents Park District after Maria Saldaña’s departure

Chicago Park District President Gery Chico was sworn in today as a member of the board of the Public Building Commission of Chicago, assuming the seat held previously by Maria Saldaña.

The oath of office was administered to Chico during an afternoon board meeting by Mayor Richard M. Daley, chairman of the PBC.

Chico, also a senior partner in the Chicago law firm of Chico & Nunes, P.C. and a former president of the Chicago Board of Education, will replace Saldaña on the PBC Board having succeeded her as president of the Chicago Park District’s Board of Commissioners. Saldaña submitted her resignation from the Public Building Commission’s board effective today.

The PBC, which manages government-funded construction and renovation projects for the City of Chicago and Cook County, has 11 seats on its board. Six members represent the City of Chicago, and one member each represents the following: Cook County, the Chicago Board of Education, the Chicago Park District, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and the Cook County Forest Preserve.
