DETAILS: The Kenwood Academy Link and Mechanical Project includes the construction of an enclosed second level elevated link between the main Kenwood Academy building and Canter building along with site enhancements for landscaping, parking and interior mechanical updates. The hiring event is open to all residents interested in exploring construction career opportunities on any of PBC’s upcoming projects.

The PBC establishes city residency and community area hiring requirements for each construction project. At the outset of a project, the PBC defines the community area, usually the neighborhood and immediate surroundings areas, where a percentage of the total hours worked on a project must be worked by residents of that community area.

“When project’s contract is awarded to a General Contractor, the PBC works with that contractor to establish the number of positions available to the community based on that project’s manpower schedule. Once that number is established, the PBC schedules hiring events to provide experienced community residents with the opportunity to apply for the available jobs,” Ray Giderof, PBC Acting Executive Director said.

About the PBC: The Public Building Commission of Chicago manages construction and renovation projects for the City of Chicago and its sister agencies.  Additional information about the PBC and its projects can be found at www.pbcchicago.com.
