A plan for the Public Building Commission of Chicago to acquire property for the new Chinatown Branch Library was introduced to City Council today.

The land acquisition under consideration will support the future development of a new library for the Chinatown community. The proposed site is located in the heart of Chinatown where it will serve as a gateway to the community. The new facility will replace the existing branch located in a leased building at 2353 S. Wentworth Avenue.

Based on the Chicago Public Library’s 2-story building program, the new library will feature a large reading room, hi-tech teen room, juvenile/children’s reading room, flexible meeting spaces for community use, state-of-the-art technology for public use along with on-site parking and increased seating capacity.
