Paul Laurence Dunbar Career Academy Renovation
The project involves exterior masonry repairs, window and curtain wall replacement, roof replacement and repairs, mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades and interior finish upgrades for 328,000 GSF High School Career Academy built in 1956.
National Teachers Academy
Mayor Richard M. Daley rang the bell to open the new National Teachers Academy, September 3, 2002.
Groundbreaking for National Teachers Academy was held March 14, 2001.
William Jones College Prep
September 3, 2002 was the first day of school in this newly renovated facility.
The 14 month $14.4 million renovation started in the spring of 2001. The project will provide 37 classrooms with new finishes lighting, HVAC and technology upgrades, expanded toilet facilities, new student lockers and a new administration area in the former gym. Student/staff circulation in the classroom tower will be enhanced by the addition of a new central stair.
Columbia Explorers Academy
Mayor Daley opened this school Sept. 4, 2001. This is a three-story 83,000-square-foot building with specialized computer, science and math labs; a resource center with complete Internet connectivity; and space for 850 students.
Chicago Military Academy Addition
Mayor Daley cut the ribbon to open the new addition on September 10, 2002.
Construction of the $16 million addition, which will add 15 class-rooms to the popular high school and extend the campus north to 35th Street, will be completed in 2002.
The design will fit better into the surrounding 35th Street commercial district thanks to a cooperative effort by the Public Building Commission and the community. At the request of the Bronzeville Merchants Association, the PBC redesigned the appearance of the new addition to make its 35th Street side more architecturally inviting, adding wide windows on the first floor and an entrance on that side of the building
