Mark T. Skinner West Elementary School

LEED Certified GOLD

This project will implement the ‘L’ shaped prototypical design to serve 742 students, ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade. This 101,000 SF, three-story, steel frame and masonry construction building will include science, computer, music, and art classrooms, in addition to library, gymnasium, and dining facilities. The site will include a parking lot with 28 spaces.

LEED Features: A historic water tower will be reused to store roof runoff water for irrigation of the landscape. This project will achieve the PBC goal of LEED “Silver” Certification.

Miles Davis Academy

LEED Certified SILVER

The new three-story is approximately 100,000 square feet and will serve 600 students. The design consists of a new three-story facility made of steel framing and predominantly brick construction.

The facility features:

  • Modern classrooms,
  • Art room,
  • Multipurpose room,
  • Science room,
  • Library and
  • Gymnasium

LEED Features: This project has a goal of LEED “Silver” Certification.

Albany Park School

LEED Certified

The new three-story middle school will include 26 classrooms and accommodate 720 students. With a building area of approximately 104,000 square feet, the school will sit on a 4.5-acre site.

In addition, the new Albany Park school will be built to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s standards for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. In support of Mayor Richard M. Daley’s effort to make Chicago the most environmentally friendly city in the nation, “green” building strategies are integrated into the design phase of every PBC project.

Tarkington School of Excellence

LEED Certified

The new Tarkington Elementary School is the first in the Chicago Public Schools system to have the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. With a building area approximately 134,000-square-feet, the school sits on a 9.82-acre site.

The new two-story elementary school include art, music and science classrooms, a full-serving kitchen and dining facilities, a multipurpose room and a field house that will be shared by the Chicago Park District. The project also involved improvements to Marquette Park, including a new soccer field.

Edward “Duke” Ellington Elementary School

Mayor Richard M. Daley joined Barbara Eason-Watkins, CPS Chief Education Officer students, parents and teachers for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 5, 2005.

The new $18 million Ellington School, has 28 classrooms and a capacity of about 1,050 students, also includes a separate computer lab, science lab, art room, and music room; a state-of-the-art computer network; an environmentally friendly roof that features a garden area over the gymnasium; an elevator and full accessibility to people with disabilities. It also includes special features that pay homage to legendary musician who is its namesake: a keyboard design on the hallway floors, musical notes on the tree grates outside the building, and a full performance stage in the gymnasium.

Little Village High School

283,000 square foot high school on 16.5 acres for 1,400 students opened for the 2005-06 school year. The new school features:

  • Four two-story school buildings
  • Updated science and computer laboratories
  • Library/media center
  • Performing and visual arts facilites
  • Auditorium with seating for 500, dressing rooms, Green Room and workshop
  • natatorium
  • Two gymnasiums
  • Soccer and baseball fields
  • Two indoor and four outdoor basketball courts
  • Cafateria with full kitchen

DePriest Elementary School

The new three-story school, includes 28 classrooms, science and computer labs, special education rooms, a cafeteria, a library and a gymnasium opened for the 2004 school year.

Claremont Academy

The three-story, 108,000-square-foot facility with 28 classrooms, science and computer labs, a cafeteria, gymnasium, library, art and music rooms and additional special education classrooms opened for the 2004 school year.
