The Board of Commissioners of the Public Building Commission has approved a contract award for the Wildwood World Magnet School Annex project, paving the way for construction to begin later this summer.
At its monthly meeting on July 8, the board approved the awarding of the $10.6 million contract to Paschen Milhouse Joint Venture III for the construction project at the elementary school, 6950 N. Hiawatha Avenue in the Forest Glen community on Chicago’s Northwest Side.
The project will bring a 34,000 square foot, three-story building with new classrooms and labs, including 12 classrooms, a computer lab, art room, library, administrative suite and lunchroom.
Work will also be performed at the existing school, with renovation of an existing classroom into a music classroom, the renovation of a classroom/office into a single classroom and the renovation of another classroom into a music storage area to complement the school’s existing music room.
The annex will address overcrowding at the school, which is currently operating at 175% capacity. Wildwood’s current building is designed for 240 students and its enrollment this school year was 423 students. The annex and renovations will be completed in late summer 2015, in time for the opening of the 2015-16 school year.
