CHICAGO- The Board of Commissioners of the Public Building Commission of Chicago today approved three resolutions that will allow work to move ahead for the planning and construction of Chicago Public Schools.
The board approved the awarding of a general contractor for the construction of the John C. Coonley Elementary School Addition Project located at 4046 N. Leavitt in the North Center community. The contract will be awarded to K.R. Miller Contractors, Inc. of Chicago for an amount not to exceed $10,777,000 million.
The board also approved the acceptance of a partial undertaking request from the Chicago Board of Education for the planning, design and construction of the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School Annex and the appointment of Muller + Muller of Chicago as the Architect of Record for the project at 615 W. Kemper Place in the Lincoln Park community.
The PBC will coordinate with CPS to finalize the project scope and design parameters and budget for the project.
Also approved was a request from the Chicago Board of Education for PBC to perform the planning phase of the proposed new Southwest Area Elementary School located near 60th Street and South Karlov Avenue in the West Lawn community.
Under the planning agreement with CPS, PBC will develop the scope, schedule, budget and conceptual drawings for this new grade school.
“PBC is pleased to take on these projects and continue our partnership with CPS as we work together to improve school facilities across the city,” said Erin Lavin Cabonargi, Executive Director of the PBC. “These projects are another example of our commitment to providing CPS students with the best learning environments possible so our children can thrive.”
In other business, the board also approved a contract with A Safe Haven Landscaping for maintenance at two PBC project sites on the South Side for a cost not to exceed $16,192. Under the contract, A Safe Haven will provide routine landscaping maintenance services.
A Safe Haven, based on Chicago’s West Side, helps formerly homeless individuals who have battled substance abuse and addictions transform their lives by providing the tools they need to overcome the root causes of homelessness. The organization provides housing, support services and job training for individuals as they work to become self-sufficient and rebuild their lives.
