New Artificial Turf Project Approved By PBC Board for Douglas Park

CHICAGO – The Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC) today awarded a contract for the development of a new artificial turf field at Douglas Park located at 1401 S. Sacramento in the North Lawndale Community on the City’s near southwest side.

The project scope includes the replacement of the existing grass with a new 62,640-square-foot artificial turf field in addition to new sports lighting, fencing and the installation of a new drinking fountain.

The new artificial turf project will employ the standard sustainability metrics implemented by the PBC.

In other business, the PBC Board of Commissioners also approved undertaking requests from Chicago Public Schools to build a new linked annex at the Edison Park Elementary School in the Norwood Park community on the City’s far northwest side, a new linked annex for the Nathan Hale Elementary School located in the Garfield Ridge community on the City’s southwest side, and a new addition for the Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School located at 3730 N. Oakley Avenue in the City’s North Central community.

Construction is projected to begin on these projects in early 2013.

The Public Building Commission of Chicago manages construction and renovation projects for the City of Chicago and its sister agencies. Mayor Rahm Emanuel serves as the PBC’s chairman.
