The Board of Commissioners for the Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC) today approved an amendment to the PBC Code of Ethics to clarify restrictions and increase limitations for PBC employees and officials.
The amendment to the Code of Ethics includes the following changes:
- Redefines “family member” and “relative” definitions to include domestic partner;
- Increases restrictions on those “seeking to do business” with the Commission. Prior restrictions only included those already “doing business”;
- Restricts an official, employee or immediate family member who is seeking public office from soliciting or accepting political contributions exceeding $1,500 per primary or general election (or $3,000 per year) from a person doing business or seeking to do business with the PBC; and
- Clarifies that restrictions on officials and employees having economic interest in any contract or work paid for or administered by the PBC also extends to family members.
The PBC Code of Ethics was last amended by the PBC Board of Commissioners on June 8, 2004. The revisions to this code are effective immediately.
The PBC also requires that each PBC employee and board member attend a training seminar that details the duties, obligations and responsibilities under the Code of Ethics.
The Public Building Commission of Chicago manages construction and renovation projects for the City of Chicago and its sister agencies. Mayor Rahm Emanuel serves as the PBC’s chairman. Erin Lavin Cabonargi serves as the Executive Director of the PBC. Additional information about the PBC and its projects can be found at www.pbcchicago.com
