The Public Building Commission (PBC) Board of Commissioners today awarded a contract for the construction of the new Haas Park field house located at 2402 N. Washtenaw Avenue in the Logan Square community on the City’s northwest side.
The Haas Park field house is scheduled to be complete and open for public use by fall 2011.
The proposed field house includes a gymnasium with bleachers and striping for basketball and volleyball courts.
Also included are club rooms, an exercise equipment room, gym storage, reception area, an administrative office and public restrooms for community use and program offerings by the Chicago Park District.
The building will be constructed using steel frame and masonry construction. A curtain wall at the lobby entrance and multi-purpose room will allow for visibility into the park and generous daylight into the main building spaces.
The field house is designed to achieve minimum LEED Silver Certification and includes a mechanical system targeted to reduce energy consumption and native and adaptive planting in the landscaping immediately surrounding the field house.
“Every new PBC construction project is designed to achieve a minimum LEED Silver rating,” said Executive Director Erin Lavin Cabonargi. “Due in large part to the PBC’s commitment to environmentally sustainable development, the City of Chicago has the most municipally-owned LEED certified buildings in the nation.”
In other business, the PBC board approved a request from the Chicago Public Library for the PBC to perform planning services for the Humboldt Park Library addition project located at 1605 N. Troy Street on the city’s northwest side.
The PBC Board of Commissioners also approved a request by the Chicago Park District to undertake the purchase of playground equipment for Blackwelder Park located at 11500 S. Homewood Avenue in the Morgan Park community on the City’s southwest side.
